How Ubuntu saved my tech career
Because Linux is the best. Always.
And because of that I think that life is beautiful.
A little bit of context before we dive into beautiful world of IT, Docker, Windows and of course Linux. I work as a SWE in one of the fastest growing AI Startup in Central Europe. A lot of my daily work depends heavly on Docker and I use Windows as my main OS. Why? I ask myself this question all the time. [Here goes link to article where I discuss Windows vs Linux]
The Docker nightmare beggins
As a clever man I love to sleep. And why you ask? Because I read book called Why we sleep. But my last nights are full of nightmares. When I wake up 2 days ago, I thinked that this will be another avarage day, but how much I was wrong...
Docker was not working on my Windows. I use WSL2 to handle my linux distros on Windows, but nothing worked as expect. It was sad.
Hours spend on finding solution. Reinstalling Docker-Desktop, WSL, additional Windows features. Changing and modyfing configuration files. Reading logs.
I spend 2 days fighting with Windows. And 2-nd day I tell to myself that this will not end up that way.
Plan
I knew that I have big problem. My Docker doesnt working. I cant do my tasks in work. So I make decision. Its time to install Linux.
I had 1TB HDD disk connected to motherboard, so theoritically shrink disk space and you are good to go. But no. Allocation of space in my disk was not adequat. I had 200GB free space and can shrink only 13GB. I disabled Windows Security features and disable temp sys files that provided "swap"
Linux setup
I installed some apps that I use on daily basis:
- DOCKER
- VSCODE
- NODE.JS
- SLACK
- & other internal tools
